KK Dollar Hot Pot is located right above Jubilant Restaurant. If I were to describe KK Dollar in one word, I would use the word, “FUN”.  The concept is interesting and things are different from most of the other hot pot places.  However, the food quality is not very high and the prices are similar to better quality places.  But there are definitely a couple of interesting concepts to mention:

Interesting concept 1: KK Dollar gives you a choice to either order each individual item or have all you can eat.  The meal automatically turns into AYCE once you order more than $25 worth of food.  During this particular visit, we were a party of 10+ people so we all had the $25 AYCE.

Interesting concept 2: They use individual mini stoves here and not big ones where everyone has to share.  The good part is that it is more hygenic than sharing with people and the pot is always easily accessible because it is right infront of you!

Interesting concept 3:  These are our plates and bowls.  They gave us these tiny little plates and bowls to eat in.  I wasn’t used to it because the bowl was too small and the plate wasn’t deep enough.  But it’s fancy looking, right?

Interesting concept 4: As well, they have a DIY sauce bar in the main area of the restaurant where you can go and mix your own sauce.  Some examples of sauces are: peanut, satay, garlic, meat sauce, chilli, homemade soy sauce, etc.

Anyways, here is my pot!  The weird thing is that the first round of superior beef was great; but, the next round was completely different.  The beef was rough and very lean.  It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t as good as the first plate.  I wonder why?

Here is an example of the veggies that they offer.  The choices at KK Dollar is a bit limited, but it’s enough to fill you up for sure.  The interesting thing was that everyone was raving about the fried rice.  I saw chunks of seafood in the rice so I guess that is what makes it delicious, but I was too full to try the rice. :p

Be warned that the dumplings here are not like dumplings you would normally eat.  They are SMALL!!!!  We stared at it for a minute and thought that it looked like dumpling wrap more than dumplings because there were hardly any meat in it.

HOWEVER!!!  The oysters were really gigantic and fresh~  So if you are an oyster fan….this is the place!

Haha.  Isn’t the name of this restaurant cute?  Little Fat Sheep is a mongolian style hot pot place in Richmond.  This is not an All You Can Eat place but the trade off to unlimited amounts of food is higher quality food.  The ingrediants are fresher than you would get from AYCE places.  I think the prices are medium and reasonable.

The benefit of mongolian style hot pot is the soup base.  There are many different ingredients in the soup base and many of them are really good for your body.  My mom recognizes some of the ingredients as things she would put into our chinese soups. Unlike other hot pot places, there is no need for soy sauce, satay or peanut butter sauce because of the flavourful and delicious soup base. (more…)
