It’s been an amazingly fun-filled week for iPanda and I’m so grateful for everything. Grey clouds, rain, or sunshine…everything seems better after an amazing meal!!  And this is one of those restaurants that can definitely turn your frowns into smiles~

That’s right!  This is The Eatery!!!  Where there are good eats and cool beats!!!

This is actually a Japanese restaurant even though the decor sure doesn’t look like it.  The inside looks more like a bar or pub.  The music was blasting and the cool “creatures” hanging from the ceiling were amazing fun to look at.  This place is famous for creative food and reasonable prices.  After this visit, I would say that their quality is pretty high too~

We arrived at 5:30pm for an early dinner.  This was smart because there was a line forming at 6pm even on a weekday~  We started off the meal with a tuna tataki salad.  I wanted some more veggies and was hoping this would help satisfy my daily vegetable requirements.  Opps!  Haha.  It turned out that the focus wasn’t the salad.  I must have read the description wrong!!!!  This dish is basically slices of tuna tataki on a bed of lettuce with some tomato and cucumbers.  Don’t get me wrong though…this was AMAZING!!!  The tuna didn’t have a fishy taste to it at all and the sides were perfectly seared.  The mayo on top helped to keep the texture soft and moist.

  • Sliced albacore tuna tataki with ponzu sauce served on a bed of green salad ($7.95)

The Eatery has a daily specials menu and we ordered two rolls and a dozen wings from it during this visit.  We just felt like eating wings….and also because they were 35 cents each!!!  We have to order them by the dozen, but it actually was super easy to finish because they were soooo deliciously crunchy!!!

We ordered the honey garlic wings~~  I was really surprised by these because I could actually smell and taste the garlic.  Most honey garlic wings I’ve had were completely overwhelmed by the honey taste and it was difficult to make out the garlic.  This was very good, but Rockia and I both found it to be a bit too salty.  I guess it would be perfect if we were pairing these with beer because then it would have balanced itself out.  But yes…I needed to drink a lot of water after this.

Then we ordered the Godzilla roll.  This roll was pretty standard.  Avocado, eel and crab are pretty standard ingredients for sushi rolls.  So this wasn’t a big surprise.  I think we ordered this just because of the cute name.  GODZILLA!!!

  • invades The Eatery IV. crab crunch topped off with avocado and eel ($6.50)

And here is the reason why I would definitely return to The Eatery~  TA DA!!!

Yes….these 8 pieces of sashimi…..4 pieces of toro and 4 pieces of wild salmon.

The salmon sashimi was the first surprise because they served us wild salmon!  The menu just said salmon sashimi so we didn’t expect this at all.  Wild salmon is supposed to be better for your health.  My past experiences with wild salmon led me to think that wild salmon were lean and therefore not as soft.  But this wild salmon was super good!  It was still soft and not super tough.  BUT!! The best part was the TORO SASHIMI!!!!

The toro sashimi was almost see through!  There was an obvious layer of fishy fat surrounding the slice of toro.  It was the ultimate MELT IN YOUR MOUTH experience.  The juices gushed from the toro as soon as I bit into it.  OH MY!!!!

4 pieces salmon sashimi =$6.25

4 pieces toro sashimi = $6.25

The Volcano

  • tuna, scallops, salmon and avocado, tempura style, on a lava bed of spicy crab meat ($7.95)

Hmm..Spicy HOT!  I didn’t really believe the name of this roll but this is truely a volcano (also because iPanda doesn’t really enjoy spicy things).  My impression of this roll was “what a big plop of stuff”~?  Haha.  Writing down the description of this roll I couldn’t even remember eating tuna, scallops, and salmon in this roll.  The entire thing was overwhelmed by the spicy crab meat and sauce.  It was difficult to taste what was really inside the rolls.  Also, the spicy sauce made the tempura very mushy so we could see that it was fried tempura style but it was hard to taste it.  Don’t take it wrong though. This is still pretty good (especially if you enjoy spicy foods).

The Eatery is a long time favorite in the area~  They have a LOT of selection to chose from and we would definitely go back to try all of them.  Rockia now has a major craving for the toro sashimi ~  Haha!!
