Fortune Restaurant (富臨海鮮酒家)
Posted by in $$Moderately Priced | 4 Paws | Dim Sum | VancouverDim sum!!! I love eating it even though it has tons of calories and it’s super oily. When will iPanda learn to eat healthier. Hmm…
Anyways! We were over at Oakridge Center to shop and we stopped at Fortune Restaurant for a late lunch.
We ordered a whole bunch of stuff because we were super hungry. The first thing to arrive was the fresh shrimp rice roll (腸粉). The shrimp was nice and fresh and it costs $5.50 The rice rolls in Vancouver are very different from those in Enping because the rice roll layer is thicker. But I like it this way because it is chewier~
This is the soy sauce for us to pour on top of the rice roll (腸粉).
Chicken feet (鳳爪) used to be my favourite but my favourites change all the time. This was $4.15. The main part of chicken feet is mostly the soft and flavorful skin. Most people can’t stand to eat this, but it’s pretty good if you can look past the fact that it is chicken feet.
This is iPanda’s new favorite. I don’t know why but I had a giant craving for lotus leaf rice (糯米雞). Fortune House did a really good job with this because there wasn’t an overwhelming heap of sticky rice inside. This was $4.95. I liked that they put tons of ingredients inside. There were ample amounts of mushrooms, pork and dried scallops! I was surprised to find dried scallops inside because they are usually more expensive. But Fortune House is higher priced dim sum restaurant so I guess the quality of the food relates directly to the price.
We also ordered the Malay Steamed Sponge Cake (馬拉糕). This is a soft steamed sponge cake with molasses.
I didn’t like the Malay Steamed Sponge Cake because the texture was rough and the cake wasn’t soft enough.
Rockia was in the mood to splurge a little so we ordered the Shark Fin Soup with Supreme Dumpling (魚翅灌湯餃). WOW! I haven’t eaten this in the longest time ever.
This little bowl of yumminess came with red vinegar for you to add to the soup. I personally love adding red vinegar. The soup is a clear broth similar to chicken soup.
The plump dumpling was filled with shark fin, pork and shrimp. The variety of ingredients inside were a bit limited. I’ve had these with ham, dried scallops and even chopped mushrooms. Nevertheless, it was still a great treat and it only costs $5.95 so it was worth it.
We ended the giant lunch with these fried sweet cream buns (炸奶皇包). I love these fried little buns. They were freshly fried and pipping hot when it came. I would have preferred the cream to be a bit more liquid. It was good, but I’ve had better ones in China.
