Café 85度C。

Posted by iPanda in $Cheap Eats | 5 Paws | Bakery | Shanghai

On our first visit to Shanghai, the first thing we ate wasn’t their famous xiao long bao.  After getting off the super long airplane ride, we were way too tired to eat and ended up heading right back to the hotel to rest.  Our relative in Shanghai was super nice to buy us a snack and some juice to take back to the hotel in case we got hungry late at night.

Thanks to jet lag…..I woke up in the middle of the night with my stomach growling.  I opened the couple packages of pastries and took a giant bite.  These little chocolate roll cakes were absolutely delicious!  I was so shocked how soft and moist they were.

The roll had a thin layer of cream inside and the middle was filled with raspberry jam~  I really liked the fact that the whole thing wasn’t overly sweet.  The cake was so soft….hmmm…  The chocolate cake wasn’t overwhelming thick and creamy so I didn’t feel guilty polishing off a couple of these. :)

The second container were these little maple syrup and nut cookies.  I was excited to try these because they have maple syrup in it (iPanda loves maple syrup)!

But, I was a bit disappointed with these cookies.

After tasting the chocolate roll cake, I expected way more from these little cookies.  They tasted a bit over baked (burnt taste?).  I didn’t like these at all and they were unfinished that night.

After a hit and a miss, I was hesitant to open the last container.  The reason is that these cookies looked a bit unappetizing.

These cookie jars were sealed with an air tight lid.

TA-DA!!!  Look at them.  What do you think?  They look a bit like wood chips or pieces of cereal crushed together.  I thought they looked really weird at first.  BUT!!!!

These little dark brown cookies were absolutely amazing!  WOW!  At first bite, they are crunchy and had a hint of chocolate.  The texture wasn’t rough because the chocolate melted in your mouth as soon as you took a bite.  The big surprise actually came after chewing!

There were dried raisins inside the cookies!!!  The texture switched from crunchy to chewy once we got to the raisin parts.  I was so surprised how good this was.  I want another COOKIE!!!

85C。咖啡。蛋糕。烘焙專賣店 has stores located in USA, Australia, Taiwan and China.  They are very popular and many people walking around Shanghai are often holding their bakery bags.  They offer seating inside of the store for customers to enjoy their coffee and pastries.  I LOVED the chocolate chip raisin cookies.  I can’t imagine another better tasting cookie.  It was just shocking to experience the change in texture from crunchy to chewy with melt in your mouth chocolate.  AMAZING~  I would definitely visit Cafe 85 if I am ever in Shanghai again!!
