Summer Night Market 2010 (列治文夜市2010)
Posted by in $Cheap Eats | 4 Paws | RichmondThe Summer Night Market has started and iPanda rolled over to their famous food court area to munch on their yummy food!! The food court layout is the same as last year, but the rest of the Night Market has changed a lot.
Taiwan Traditional Snacks (鹿港老街)
My favorite Night Market snack is the Taiwanese wheel cake!! It’s absolutely amazing. They have 4 flavours to chose from. There are peanut butter, red bean, nutella, and custard. They also have some candied fruits (like strawberries and cherry tomatoes) on a stick.
The wheel cakes are only 1 dollar each. I love how the inside is super soft and sweet. It’s also pipping hot on the inside so be careful~
Vietnamese Dessert
We tried the Vietnamese desserts next! I didn’t try it last years so I was curious because they have lots of people drinking/eating this~
Here is the assorted jelly, beans and fruits bar~ Depending on what you order, they will scoop different ingredients into the cup. Then they add coconut milk and sugar.
And here is the finished product. This is the Jelly Water Chestnut Coconut Milk (清涼椰汁冰). All their desserts are 4 dollars each. Rockia and I were both not used to the taste of this drink. It was very overwhelming because there were so many ingredients all mixed together. I probably won’t try this again though because the mixture was a bit weird. Overall, it was too many different things in one big cup of coconut juice. Hm…..
Sumo Bites Rice Burgers
Sumo!!!! Hehe. Sumo Bites offers Rice Burgers. They are new to the Night Market so I was excited to try it. The rice burgers are 4 dollars each and comes in 3 different flavours. They have sukiyaki beef, teriyaki chicken and kurobuta pork sausage. We ordered the kurobuta pork sausage and teriyaki chicken. HEHE! Look how happy they look in the picture~ iPanda loves happy people~ SMILE!!!!!
The kurobuta pork sausage is served with wasabi mayo, sauteed onions, and leaf lettuce. I love the concept of using rice instead of a bun. However, I found that this lacked a little bit of a WOW factor. Maybe they can add black sesame or other ingredients to make the rice a bit more flavourful. In addition, there weren’t enough onions and sauce.

The teriyaki chicken was the same. The chicken was flavourful but it wasn’t enough to balance the bland taste of the rice.
Hehe. The rice was hard and crunchy. It was fun eating this~
Look!!! They also gave us two pins! One pin said sumo bites on it and had their logo. The other one said herro? Hahaha. Very cute~ iPanda wants to make her own pins as well!
Korean Food Street
Here is another Night Market favourite! The Korean Food Street is home to the Twist Potatoes and the fish waffles~ The potatoes are 1 for 3 dollars or 2 for 5 dollars. The waffles are 1 dollar each and comes in red bean, custard, and chocolate.
I tried the fish waffles in custard. But, I prefer the Taiwanese wheel cake more. The custard in the fish waffles are bravarian cream. It is sweeter and thickened with gelatine and liqueur.
The potato twists are a Night Market favourite. It’s a whole potato cut into a spiral and then rolled in different flavoured powders. These are super yummy and potatoes are actually very good for you~
Pang’s Beef Brisket (鵬記馳名牛雜)
Ok. This next one might not be interesting to everyone. This is a popular street food in Asia which involves stewing beef offal in a rich sauce made from Chu Hou Paste. It’s actually really good! Each one is soft and full of flavor because it has soaked up the sauce. This is sold for 4 dollars. It also has pieces of radishes in it. I liked this a lot.
Xin Jiang Man BBQ (新疆佬串燒)
This is the chicken and beef skewers. It’s topped with loads of spices. You can order it either spicy or normal.
I reviewed this last year HERE.
Ahhh….the Night Market 2010 is filled to the brim with yummy eats. Some prices have definitely gone up though.
Here are pictures of the other vendors…
