La Casa Gelato

Posted by iPanda in 4 Paws | Dessert | Vancouver

Ahhhh….You know that spring is here when a panda starts to crave ice cream~  Yummm.  Gooey, sweet, sticky ice cream.  Alright, now that I have made you crave ice cream as well…take a look at our visit to La Casa Gelato!

And here it is!  La Casa Gelato is located at 1033 Venables Street in Vancouver, BC.  They offer homemade waffle cones, chocolate dipped waffle cones, or chocolate dipped waffle cones with sprinkles.  Upon walking into the store, there are wall to wall freezers filled with ice cream.  They specialize in many unique flavors such as durian, ginger, death by mango and the list goes on.  This shop first opened in 1982 with 12 flavors and  has expanded to 508  different flavors!

They offer small free sampling on these really tiny spoons.  Once you’ve decided on the ice cream flavor you want,  you can go buy some tokens from the side counter.  A single scoop waffle cone is 4 dollars and a single scoop with chocolate dipped waffle cone (with or without sprinkles) is 6 dollars.  I think they set up the token system so that the staff members in charge of scooping don’t have to handle cash as well.

I decided to order my favorite maple walnut ice cream in a chocolate dipped waffle cone with sprinkles.  I was instantly attracted to this cone because it was so colorful!!!  As for Rockia, he went for the chocolate mixed nuts in a waffle cone.

Rockia’s ice cream was everything that he wanted.  He walked in saying that he wanted chocolate and something crunchy to munch on.  The moment we looked around we saw this chocolate with mixed nuts.  However, it wasn’t cold enough  because it started melting right away.

As for my chocolate waffle cone with sprinkles, I found the cone to be way too sweet.  There was a super thick layer of chocolate which was then covered with an even thicker layer of sprinkles.  This was a bit too overwhelming for me.  However, I LOVED the maple walnut ice cream.  For those who have never tried this flavor, it is a must try.  Maple syrup is good because it isn’t super sticky and sweet.  As well, I also like the crunch that the walnut adds to this.

Wouldn’t it be fun to try all 508 flavors of ice cream?  I would love to be able to review each flavor, but 508 flavors is too much for one panda.  I will definitely make it my goal to try a new flavor each time I visit though!
