Sweet Revenge Patisserie

Posted by iPanda in $Cheap Eats | 5 Paws | Dessert | Vancouver

Ahhh.  Dessert is definitely the best part of the meal.  iPanda is just like any other panda….she craves chocolate and dessert at night time.  Haha (no more bamboo).  Too bad that lots of dessert places that I would like to try do not open late….However, Sweet Revenge Patisserie opens until 12 or 1am!!!

We ordered dessert take out from Sweet Revenge late one night.  I wanted to try the Chocolate Pudding Cake and the Pear Creme Brulee.  The Chocolate pudding cake ($6.35) was similar to the chocolate fondant I tried at Beard Papa.  The top layer is the chocolate cake and then there is chocolate sauce in the middle.

The top of the chocolate cake was baked to perfection.  It was super moist.  This wasn’t overly sweet but it was chocolatey enough to satisfy my chocolate craving.

However, I found that the chocolate sauce inside was a bit too watery.  I expected thick, creamy chocolate sauce, but I couldn’t even scoop it out with my fork because it was a liquid!  That was definitely a let down.  Especially because the outside of it looked so perfect.

The next dessert is the pear creme brulee ($6.55).  The waiter asked me if I wanted to have raspberry or pear.  So I chose pear because it is sweeter.

However, I was surprised that they actually mixed pieces of pear into the creme mixture.  I’ve had this before and they simply placed a layer of fruit on the bottom.  By mixing the pear into the creme, it changed the original taste of it completely.  In addition, there were way too much pear.  The fruit overwhelmed the creamy taste, but it was also refreshing.  Personally, I like the traditional creme brulee with no fruits in it.

I’ve tried the desserts at Sweet Revenge many times before.  Their overall quality is good.  Their desserts are very popular.  The problem is that their store is extremely small.  There are only a couple of small tables inside.  There is always a wait line at night and that is why we sometimes prefer to order take out.  However, they let you take the desserts home in their original containers.  So they charge a couple of dollars each as the deposit for the containers.  If you bring them back to the store, then they will give you your deposit back.
