King’s Cake Shop (金獅餅店)
Posted by in $$Moderately Priced | 4 Paws | Dessert | RichmondThis is our second visit to King’s Cake Shop to buy a birthday cake. The first time we brought the poo cake and the tea pot cake. You can read the review I previously posted HERE. This time we ordered a specially made cake for Rickon’s birthday. He’s a big fan of Yugioh so we took a “The Flute of Summoning Kuriboh” and a “Mokey Mokey” Yugioh card to give to King’s chefs. We placed the order a week ahead of time. After the pastry chefs looked at the cards, they called us to confirm that they can make the Mokey Mokey. This Yugioh character is so much simpler so we were not surprised that they picked this character. Rockia picked chestnut filling for the inside. And here is the finished product!
This is the cutest thing ever. We really didn’t want to eat it because it was too cute to cut through. Awww….
They used the same technique as the previous cakes we ordered. They squirted blue and white cream all around the cake. The hands and feet were all constructed with cream. I personally loved the cute ears on the top made of white chocolate. Even though there were lots of cream, it was not sweet at all. The cream was light, fluffy and perfectly sweetened. The two red hearts on the “happy birthday” sign added another nice touch to the whole cake.
In terms of the inside of the cake, it was filled with two layers of chestnut and cream. When we ordered they told us they would use fresh fruit on or in the cake to add some sweet and sour taste to the cake. They also told us that they would be using mango pudding in the creamy layers. So when we cut open the cake, we were very surprised to see only chestnut and cream inside. Even though the ingredients were very good, this cake definitely lacked some fruit and their signature mango pudding.
In the end, the cake cost about $60. We had wanted to surprise Rickon with a unique cake that matched his interests and this is just what this cake did.
Good:- cream was not super sweet
- cake was moist
- very cute design
- no fruit or mango pudding
