I love HK style restaurants because they are so convenient and reasonably priced. After visiting Matsuyama next door, we wanted to try Silver Tower. One of iPanda’s friend recommended that we try the hot milk tea here because it’s really well made. Apparently they warm the cups before they serve the milk tea so that the temperature would remain hot. WOW! However, we didn’t try it this time because I wanted lemon water for my dry throat.  :(

Anyways, here are a couple of shots of the menus.

I wasn’t feeling too hungry so I ordered a very simple fish and veggie on vermicelli.  It was surprisingly delicious!  There were plenty of fish slices and bok choi.  It was really a gigantic bowl!  I kept eating and eating and there were always more.  Needless to say….I couldn’t finish it all.  This noodle bowl is definitely full of ingredients.  The broth is simple and doesn’t have much MSG.  I definitely enjoyed this!

Our friend had the baked meat sauce pasta.  Look at the load of melted cheese on top.  I love this dish.  It’s one of my favourites when I go to Hong Kong style cafes.  I stole a bite from her dish and the sauce was super thick (in a good way)!  It wasn’t watery at all and consisted of lots of meat.  It was pretty big for her too because she couldn’t finish it either.

Another dish that our friend ordered was this veggie and mushroom thick rice noodle.  This dish was a let down because it was way too oily (see how shiny it was?).  However, it makes sense because these thick rice noodles can’t be cooked in the wok without lots of oil.  I’ve had homemade versions and they were either clumped together or broken into tiny pieces.  Aparently these thicker rice noodles (河粉) were made with lots of oil as well.  So if you would like a healthier alternative then it’s best to go with vermicelli (米粉).  Overall, we had a great lunch here.  It was all pretty good and there were tons of people when we visited!

Overall impression:

Good:

• Big portions
• Reasonable prices
• Good environment

Bad:

• Rice noodle was too oily
• Small parking lot!!!
