Pittsburg Restaurant (柏斯堡餐廳)

Posted by iPanda in $$Moderately Priced | 2 Paws | Burnaby | Hong Kong Style Cafe

We were rolling around Metrotown waiting to watch a movie.  We wanted to grab a quick bite to eat before sitting down to a three hour movie.  We were heading towards the Crystal mall food court until we ran into Pittsburg Restaurant.  The restaurant was busy and most tables were filled.

I was a bit shocked by the prices because an average dish could easily cost 10 to 30 dollars.  Even a fruit salad would be around 9 to 10 dollars.  Looking past the price tags, I scanned the menu for dishes that would give us a good indication of the quality of the food here.

Rockia decided to go with hainanese chicken and rice whereas iPanda had the spicy tomato sausage pasta.  The chicken came with a bowl of chinese soup.  The soup had bits of carrots in it and was okay.  It was bland and lacked any intense flavour; however, it was a good combination with the really oily rice.

The chicken was very sad because it was mostly skin and bones.  Good thing for the big bowl of rice or Rockia would have been still hungry after.  An interesting thing to note is that they charge you an additional dollar if you want the chicken leg.  Interesting….. @@”

My tomato sausage pasta was not very surprising.  I expected it to be spicy but it was increasingly more spicier with every bite.  We both couldn’t finish it and I left the pasta unfinished.

I had a cold milk tea with my pasta and had to add a dollar because I wanted it cold.  The service was very fast and the waitresses were very nice and polite.  Another positive note is that the food arrived very quickly.  In the end, we ended up paying $10 for each dish.  The total bill wasn’t too bad but it was only because we didn’t dare order the 25 dollars plus dishes.  Good thing too because the dishes weren’t impressive and I left feeling a bit disappointed.  Hopefully our next food outing would get me more excited! :P

  • Although I work just a short walking distance away, I had never been to Pittsburg. I always wanted to go with the family (on a weekend) so that we can check out more choices. The hainanese chicken rice looked good though.
