Da Rae Oak Korean Restaurant (多來屋)

This place is located right next to Samosa Garden and we used to visit pretty frequently with the Panda family. However, we are sad to report that the quantity of the food seems to have dropped since our last visit. We decided to visit on a week night and were surprised that there was a giant table of Korean students sitting next to us. They were pretty loud and seemed to be having a great time. I love seeing people enjoying the company of good friends and delicious food…but it’s important not to be so loud that they disturb others. Oh well…good thing they left not long after our food arrived!

Most Korean restaurants will serve some yummy side dishes with the dinner.
So we were happy when the server gave us our usual favorites: sweet potato, radish, kimchi, bean sprout and seaweed.
My all-time favorite side dish is the sweet potato. However, these ones were not soft enough and there weren’t enough sweet sauce on it. Apart from that, all the other dishes were ok.
The first dish to arrive was the prime rib. Panda Papa and iPanda both loveeeeee this dish. The meat is juicy and the sauce is a bit sweet. I’m not sure what sauce they use to marinate it. But it’s definitely deeee-lish~ The only down side is that the size of this dish has shrunk a lot since the last time we had it (only a couple of pieces to share). As well, the description said that it was ribs with bones, but there weren’t any bones in it at all! @@” We had this dish before and it always gave with some bones attached to the meat. We inquired the server about this but all she said was that they don’t make it with bones anymore. That was definitely weird.
The next dish is this pork bone soup. iPanda is impartial to this dish because it’s basically bones(with a bit of meat attached to it) and vegetables in a hot soup. You can order it either mild or super spicy. The soup would go great with noodles but they don’t offer like that here. This dish comes in a pot similar to hot pot restaurants. It was nicely resting on a portable stove on our table. We realized that this dish had also gotten smaller….(it’s hard to tell from the pictures because the soup is covering most of it)…
And here is another dish that we would typically order at a Korean restaurant. This is the seafood pancake. I’m not sure why they call it pancake when it resembles a pizza more. As well, I have always believed that pancakes should be sweet? Anyways. The seafood pancake was filled with squid, imitation crab, green onions, shrimp and the flour dough. It was sliced into square pieces which I found interesting because most places would slice it up like a pizza. I guess the little square pieces make it easier to share with a bigger group of people.
Overall impression:Good:
- Small neighbourhood restaurant
- Prime rib was juicy
- Average price
- Smaller portions than before
