Richmond Sushi World/Pink Swirl

We were wandering around Richmond today hoping to think of a place to eat and lo and behold we stumbled into the grand opening of Pink Swirl cross over Sushi World. This place is located inside Empire Center and hosts many hidden gems in its food court. Now Sushi World used to have a smaller place here but when we walked up to it there was a sign on the door that said they had relocated to a larger location in the same mall. We couldn’t find it when we first walked around but then we realized that Pink Swirl had transformed into a sushi and yogurt place.

They still had the same decor from Pink Swirl;therefore, we were really hesitant to try their sushi. But then!! I noticed their flyer on the window which said they had sale prices right now. Party tray 9 with 23 pieces of sushi was only $20.95 and party tray 10 with 43 pieces of sushi rolls was $19.95. We had to try it with these prices and the yummy looking pictures in the fliers.

These are the two trays that we ordered for take out. It look a bit longer for it to be made but it is also a big order. The two women making the sushi were Mandarin/Cantonese speaking. The boss was a very friendly man who started talking to us about Christmas while we waited. Both party trays looked amazing when we opened it at home. :) (hint: look at the giant scallops)
In terms of taste, the only downfall is the salmon sashimi. The salmon wasn’t fatty enough so it wasn’t as sweet as other salmon sashimi. As well, the area of the fish they used and the way they cut the salmon also resulted in the salmon sashimi being only ok tasting. The positive part of this meal was the giant scallop sushi and the tokyo roll! The tokyo roll are the ones on the left of the tray above. It’s special because it doesn’t have any rice in it. The tokyo roll consists of crab meat and avocado. The outside is not wrapped in seaweed but in some sort of crepe like thin layer. I must remember to go back and ask the owner what the outer layer is.

There are a couple more things to mention. This place is closed on Tuesdays and only accepts cash. As well, the restaurant looks nothing like a sushi house.
