Nishiki Sushi (田七壽司)
Posted by in $$Moderately Priced | Japanese | VancouverWe’ve found an amazing hidden gem!!! I’m so excited to talk about this restaurant. I went to Nishiki with a friend a couple of years ago and wasn’t impressed. So when Rockia suggested that we give it a try I was a bit hesitant. However, the moment I walked into the door I noticed that they have some unique rolls and dishes in their wall menu. There is a lotus roll which we didn’t try but looked very interesting. Hehe~ Maybe next time.

Rockia chose the Dragon roll and I ordered the teriyaki B.B.B (Chicken). We decided to order these two things to get a more well rounded idea of what this restaurant is like. The dragon roll came first and it looked amazing!!

This is one of their special rolls and it costs $7.99. It is fairly long and was intricately made. The dragon roll hs prawn tempura, avocado, kappa, and unagi. The taste was amazing! The prawn tempura was still a bit hot. The outside of the roll had the avocado and eel alternatively wrapped. It was then topped with tiny masago and sauce. WOW!!!! Rockia loved it and so did I~ This was one happy panda~

The bento box came with a miso soup. The soup was just right! It was hot, a bit salty with a natural miso sauce and not msg. There were bits of tofu and seaweed inside. I loved the fact that it was hot. It makes all the difference whether food is hot or cold when it gets to the table (especially in winter time).
As for the box itself, it was good size. It cost $9.70 and came with 4 spring rolls, a dynamite roll, chicken teriyaki with rice and a green salad. Everything here was freshly made and hot as well. The teriyaki chicken were juicy on the inside and had a layer of crispy skin.
I was surprised that they used good quality leafy greens in teh salad and was very happy with the peanut thai sauce it was served with. I think the overall quality of the box just surprised me a lot because many japanese bento boxes I’ve had were all sloppily made. You can really tell that the food at Nishiki were delicately made. Small details really do matter when it comes to food. I give them a big thumbs up! No wonder this place is always filled when we pass by late at night!!! :@

I’ve had both good and bad experiences here… The fancy rolls and the tempura ramen are very good, but they’ve run out of ramen several times when we’ve requested it fairly early during the evening, and I’ve been ignored by the wait staff who gave preferential treatment to the take out clients.
