Mongolian Little Sheep Hot Pot (蒙古小肥羊火锅)
Posted by in $$$Affordable Fine Dining | 4 Paws | Hot Pot | RichmondHaha. Isn’t the name of this restaurant cute? Little Fat Sheep is a mongolian style hot pot place in Richmond. This is not an All You Can Eat place but the trade off to unlimited amounts of food is higher quality food. The ingrediants are fresher than you would get from AYCE places. I think the prices are medium and reasonable.
The benefit of mongolian style hot pot is the soup base. There are many different ingredients in the soup base and many of them are really good for your body. My mom recognizes some of the ingredients as things she would put into our chinese soups. Unlike other hot pot places, there is no need for soy sauce, satay or peanut butter sauce because of the flavourful and delicious soup base.
In addition to hot pot ingredients, they also serve some small snack dishes during dinner time. My favorite one is the pumpkin cake with red bean inside. The pumpkin paste is fried in crispy batter. There is a sweetness in the pumpkin paste. I love this. Super yummy. Each order comes with three pieces (circles)!!!
This next snack item we ordered is my mom and sister’s favorite. It is a salty pancake like pastry with beef and green onions inside. The outside pastry keeps the meat juices inside. It’s great when you first bite into it.
We always have great dinners here. I haven’t tried this place at lunch time yet. But I’m sure it’ll be the same great experience. :)
Later Update:
Visited Mongolian Little Sheep Hot Pot one more time during the Winter 2010 Olympics. This time we ordered even more food. I wanted to post the additional pictures because you can really tell the quality of their dishes.
This is the fatty beef slices. These were delicious. They only need to be put into the pot for a short time. They turn into a nice brown color very quickly. These were a good choice at Mongolian Little Sheep because it soaks up the soup base.
This is Panda Ma’s favourite dish. This is the fried fish skin. Some people eat it like chips because it is supposed to be super crispy. However, Panda Ma prefers to soak it in the soup for a few seconds before eating it to make it seem less oily. Haha. Either way will be good!
And here are the meat balls. These were very good as well because they make it themselves with good quality beef. You can tell how fresh beef is by their colour. The brighter red the meat the fresher it is!
